When to Book Live Music for Your Los Cabos Wedding: A Planning Timeline 🗓️
Most couples plan their wedding music in the wrong order. They fall in love with a venue, lock in a date, choose a photographer...and then, months later, start looking for live music, only to find their favorite musicians are already booked.
In Los Cabos, this happens more than you'd think. The best wedding musicians perform a limited number of dates each season, and peak months fill up fast. Most of our couples book more than a year in advance, so the couples who get exactly who they want are almost always the ones who reach out early. Here's a simple month-by-month timeline for planning the live music of your Los Cabos wedding, so nothing you love slips away before you get to it.

10 to 12 Months Out: Reach Out and Reserve
As soon as you have your date and venue confirmed, start looking for live music. This is the single most important step, and the one most couples leave too late.
You don't need your song list ready yet. You don't even need to know exactly which moments you want live music for. At this stage, the goal is simply to find musicians whose sound you love and reserve your date before someone else does.
For weddings in peak season (roughly November through June) this window matters even more. In fact, most of our couples book more than a year in advance, so the earlier you reach out, the better. Those dates are the first to go.
6 to 8 Months Out: Shape the Experience
With your date secured, this is when the fun begins. Now you can start thinking about which moments of your wedding deserve live music: the ceremony, cocktail hour, a surprise reception moment, or all of the above.
This is also the time to start gathering songs that matter to you. The piece you both consider "your song." The one that reminds you of where you met. Sharing these early gives your musicians time to build arrangements around them, especially if a song needs a custom string version.
The more your musicians understand about the feeling you want, the better they can shape the experience to fit it.
3 to 4 Months Out: Finalize the Songs
By now, your planner and venue details are coming together, and it's time to finalize your music choices. This is when you confirm the specific songs for each key moment: the processional, the vows, the recessional, and any special requests.
If you want a custom arrangement of a song that isn't a typical wedding piece, this is the deadline to lock it in. A skilled duo needs time to arrange, rehearse, and perfect a request so it sounds effortless on the day.
This is also when timing gets coordinated with your planner, how long each performance runs, when the strings hand off to a DJ, and how transitions flow.
1 Month Out: Confirm the Details
In the final weeks, everything gets confirmed. Your musicians coordinate directly with your planner and venue on arrival times, setup, sound, and the exact run of show.
There's very little for you to do at this stage, which is exactly the point. If you booked early and shaped the experience along the way, the last month should feel calm. Your only job is to look forward to it.
Why Booking Early Matters More for a Destination Wedding
When you plan a wedding from another country, you can't drop by to meet vendors in person or catch a live performance on a weekend. That makes trust and timing even more important.
Booking your musicians early doesn't just secure your date, it gives you months to communicate, share ideas, and build a relationship before the day arrives. By the time you land in Los Cabos, the music is already handled by people who understand exactly what you want.
The couples who feel most relaxed on their wedding day are almost always the ones who started early. Music is one of the easiest places to begin.
